The noise had been missing for a few nights but has been back the last 2
nights, still looping NW-SE for me.

Bill,
Actually the NCC-1 from DX Engineering does provide the ability to power active
receive antennas via the coax.
Les,
I'm not sure if they are still on the air or have gone silent, but for a long
time there was an Hasidic Jewish pirate on 1710 in Brooklyn that was on quite
regularly. Although I'm assuming the power quite low - under 100 watts - for a
long time he could be heard via skip around the
Work has kept me away from the dials lately, but tonight I happened to be out
driving around SSS time. A quick check of 1500 KHz at 5:55 PM CST revealed the
“mystery noise” warbling signal dominant on the frequency. It remained very
strong, peaking at around 6:10PM, before fading into a mix of
Hi Rene' !
I believe that's been off the air for a couple of years now although I
don't recall the exact circumstances, I'm sure someone else here will know.

Your 1490 sounds like a W call with a G, j or similar sound alike as the
fourth letter.
Your 1340 is not WVLZ but that v and z could very well be sound alikesz
I can't make out crap on the 1150 clip.
Sorry I'm probably not much help but I like a good unid and helping trying
to solve it

I'm hearing something occasionally on 1500 that I'd describe as a
short-duration data-tone type "screech" over top of a higher pitch warble.
The "screech" shows up as a narrow line on the Perseus display on USB only
while the warble is audible on both USB and LSB.

1140 - I don't see wasting bandwidth with an audio clip, but I had NBC Sports
Radio on Tuesday January 26 at 0753 EST. Nothing is coming up in a search or on
a list.

I managed to get one DKAZ fixed up and in great working order for Feb 1

What is this K-index of 5 of which you speak? Well, it certainly
sat on the band until, oh, about 1506UT, when traces of talk appeared
amid the splash on 1422, then 1566 and 1593 chimed in, and then, and
then...I think it would have been a good morning on the coast, though
not much from most
good grief, even a carrier on 1215 at 0640UT, but getting past my bedtime.
best wishes,

Huge Tahiti for a while on 738 kHz
And Burns Lake BC on 760 kHz at 0640 -- never heard that station before.
Oddly 6070 was a huge Vatican City in Latin... Nice SW treat.

One thing nobody’s mentioned is that the Wellbrook phaser shoves 12VDC out to
the FLG100/ALA100 at the antenna for signal amplification. I don’t believe any

a FLG100/ALA100 WITHOUT amplification just isn’t the same.
I have an "original" ( from 1969 ) balanced altazimuth 4' "NRC Loop" with
FET preamp which was built by the late Gordon Nelson.
I haven't used this combo since my second HQ-150 went silent about 8-10
years ago, but it worked very well at that time. I cannot use it with my
