Bill,
From all the IBOCers
Didn't stay up to DX live but ran the SDR-IQ receiver on the 695-865 kHz
band overnight. After midnight there wasn't much IBOC to note, but by 2am,
710 was covered by WLW's hash and 720 was covered by WOR IBOC. By early
morning 720 was a bright wide band of noise indicating complete dominance of

Eric,
KXPA is 5 KW and should cover 10 miles easily day or night. Good. I am
glad you are going to pass the info on to the station. KXPA used to have
a contract CE. I don't know if they still do, but he should be alerted.
I am sure KXPA sells all over the Seattle market and should beable to.
With
Paul,
No, KOMO is not HD. I really doubt anything on Vashion Island will take
it up. At least not in the near future as the frequencies and towers are
close together. KJR 950 never took on HD because of 1000 KOMO, so i
presume vise versa. In Washington state at the moment I believe there

Pat,
Yes, I agree & certainly will.
As an addition to that report, I noticed that KXPA became unlistenable
at about Northgate in Seattle last night on my way home. (It reached
the point that a "normal" listener would've probably tuned out before
that.) I think that is somewhere around 10 mi. from
I have not noticed KOMO running IBOC (I usually listen to them almost
on a daily basis.) Don't know if they have any plans to, however.

We're getting enough of our own European digital hash!
I wasn't doing any 'live' listening last night - just recordings from a
few frequencies and heard nothing untoward. Once I do a bit more turning
of dials I'll get a better idea. No one on the MWC e-board has mentioned
anything up to now.
O
Paul,
No station is going to go all HD with no analog. At least as yet.
Probably cx. Are you getting any HD hash over there? I would be
interested in knowing if any of the fallout from the HD signals is
crossing over the Pacific or Atlantic? The signals might not be strong
enough to bring on the h
One oddity I noticed on this side of the Atlantic last night was that
there was no sign of WDCD on 1540 when I recorded the channel between
0455 and 0625 UTC). CHIN was dominant and KXEL put in an appearance but
WDCD, usually the most reliable, was missing.

KAZ,
The location here is free of a lot of it. The only better location along
the coast would be maybe a bit farther to the North, above Aberdeen away
from CA stations a bit further. KSL & KOA will both be terriors at night

Tim,
You have a good point there, 3 catches for the price of one. In my book
KFBK seems to be the worst of the lot, followed closely by KEX.

Here in San Diego I only noted severe hiss from KFBK completely
covering 1520 and 1540 in the pre-sunrise hours. Other than that,
conditions were better than normal last night. Our only local i-BLOCker,
KOGO-600, is not running IBOC at night yet.
I suppose from now on we should call these statio
Dennis,
If you are getting hiss on 660, it is probably KSTE, but maybe KBOI who
is HD, but days only. At least at this time.
But after LSR in CA, the 639/666 hiss went.

Pat,
Not getting much hiss from KSTE. PDR of Korea on 657 has a some hiss along
with it's weak signal. 640 has KFI & KGVW in with no hiss noticed. KXOR 660
is also hiss less.

Dennis,
Thanks for the signal report. The KFBK hiss is less of an effect on 1520
this morning, but still is wiping out everything on 1540. I can hear
KOFI 1180 now and CJRJ 1200 but with hiss. KSTE 650 is putting a number
on 639 and 666, but 639 in worse. JOBK is above the 666 hiss.

KIWA loop was used to see if the stations hiss can be knock down or out.

Eric,
KXPA needs to be contacted within the Puget Sound area and told of the
KFBK QRM.
Besides the hash, in trying to listen to Coast to Coast on either
1530 or 1190, when they fade, distort, it sounds like there is a fright
train on the radio. I went over to KPNW also Coast to Coast and their
At a location in south Seattle, 1520 Oregon City is pretty much covered
by noise. 1540 Bellevue, just a few miles away across the lake, is at
times almost covered by noise. Quite dramatic interference on such a
local signal.

One more culprit, KSTE 650. I did not notice that one being lp but
directional this way causing hash on 639 & 666. Even some on KFI.
How many more will be on tomorrow night, who knows? I presume KKPZ
1330 will be on with theirs. They are still off at Midnight PDT.

OK, here are the after Midnight impressions. Apparently a lot of
stations did not kick their HD on tonight. But two did here on the West
coast,
1190 KEX , Yep, they kicked theirs on at Midnight and the hash it pretty
nasty. The worst out of the bunch as I expected. I can easily hear CtoC

Glenn,
Here on the West Coast I checked 1160-KSL and 850-KOA at Midnight MDT
and nothing unusual there. CX to the East are good tonight off the
Eastern beverage and I do note some very slight HD hash on 710 u/KIRO,
presumed from WLW and on 730 from presumed WGN, but nothing much. At
