Hi Colin,
Yes, I thought of a CM choke as well, and tried one (with plenty of
inductance to work well down at LF)--no discernible change in the AC
hum! But the longwire is all down, supports removed, wire rolled up, so
I don't ever plan to try that failed experiment again. :)

Then for sure you need to be lots further away from // powerlines. Here in
IL/WI there are many deer. I've made a deal with them. They don't chew my
wires and cables and I don't chew on venison meat.

Hi KAZ,
The longwire was elevated 10' the whole distance. Critters chew up
anything on the ground that catches their fancy, here in the desert
(assumed to be packrats), so I can't leave any wire or cable lying on
the ground if I want it to last more than a day or two.:)

On
Maybe add a common-mode choke to that set up.

Steve,
Was that wire directly on the desert ground or was it elevated? Either way,
I'd want to be more that 30-40 ft away from powerlines. Perhaps you'd pick
up less noise if on the ground directly?

poor lately; I don't report hets or faint traces of audio.
This morning was a little better.
I strung a 1100' E/W longwire last week but found it picked up high
levels of AC noise from a parallel powerline some short
