Hi Oliver,
using the red question mark I found [authshort][shortyear] which does
the job. It seems the authorsAlpha and authshort give the same result.
The issue of years was not dealt with in the box that opened upon
klicking the question mark.

Dear Bernhard,
I use [authorsAlpha][year] and I am very satisfied with that. It took
me a bit of time to get used to the four digit year, but regarding the
y2k issues, I would switch to the full year form to avoid confusions.
To get the effect you want, use [authorsAlpha][shortyear]
Hint: There
Hi , (first post in the Jabref Mailing list)
I have been working with electronic bibliography since Wordperfect 4.0
and biblio. At the beginning I had a numeric key for entries. Meanwhile
I like the pybliography style which has the abreviation of the lastname
for 3 authors and then a + when there
I am running 2.10.beta2. Also, the I am using abbr not appr, but that
might just be a typo on your part (I copy and pasted it from JabRef).
If it still gives you trouble try downgrading from 2.10 to 2.10_beta2
and see if that fixes the problem. I do seem to remember that there was
a problem
This seems to give a different result for you than for me. When I use the
same command for generating a bibtexkey. Since shorttitle returns the three
first words of the title in one word (for instance: title: Quantifying
Errors Introduced, the output becomes
"Aarsnes2012Quantifyingerrorintroduced"
This is what I use:
[auth][year:(unk)][shorttitle:abbr:upper]
The addition of UNK is used for citations of unknown date. An
example=20
key generated is Barichievy2013DMS.

Dear list,
First a problem description:
I have been using jabref for a while now, and like it really much. However,
I struggle with customizing the BibTeX key generator the way I want it. I
would like to create a key on the following form:
[author][year][First letter of the three first words]
Hi,
We in Stuttgart implemented it and added it to the master branch.
Should be in the next beta version then :)
Cheers,
Oliver

Thank you for your reply, Morten.
Yes, right. If in the .bib file there is no pattern setting, JabRef
has to use the global preferences.
Ciao ciao.

Hi everyone,
is it possible to specify the patterns for the BibTeX key generator
inside the .bib file, I mean per file?
I think that JabRef stores this informations only globally right?
If I have a .bib file coming from another research group and we have
to be consistent with the key patterns, it
