I haven't heard this from any official source, but I belive it's to
encourage developers to produce an iPad specific version of their
application. Likely, there's also the extra benefit that people will
pay a little extra for an iPad version even if they've already bought
the iPhone version because
Could someone explain why the iPad scales up the "2x" iphone apps? It is
scaling a 480x320 app, not just using the 960x640 resolution like the iPhone

BTW. I never install iPhone apps on the iPad. I did a couple times and it's
terrible. So much for Apple's perfection when it comes
The comment in the Holiday special about 'no-one uses the 2x iPhone
apps on an iPad. No-one. No-one' I thought was kind of odd. We just
got an iPad this month and about half of apps we've downloaded, free
and purchased, have been iPhone apps and have had the 2x in in the

Joe is never annoying, man. I like the fact they prefer different things.
That is what makes it interesting. I would hate it to see them all say
android is the best and screw apple and iPhone / ipad. IMHO Apple is great.

Yeah what *does* Carl do, apart from hating .NET? Ok I'll have a go
too:

Just to be clear Tor (in a public forum), my fascination was mostly
about the fact that you were *gushing* about how much you loved your
iPad and iPhone until just very recently. Now you're "ready to sell
the iPad" and are in awe of your new Nexus S. From my perspective -

It's cool... I get annoyed by people that bash Apple for being a very
smart and successful business. They do things that make sense for
their business.

Joe is needed though to break the monotonous Kumbaya tune that would
otherwise easily form. While I don't always agree (particular
regarding Apple being God of UI design), he speaks his mind and is
involved in some of the most interesting tech debates. Also admirable

that's true, Joe is annoying with the devotion to apple. Sometimes he

Well Tor. I think the only difference between some of your friends
here and you is that you like to speak about what you love and j like
that.
is definitely a great place to learn and innovate, though IBM and
Intel rocks too.
So do they have favorable patent sharing and profit sharing

Isn't this only Tor's second job?

I'm sorry if I sound "corporate" - but it's definitely n
Joe and Tor are certainly good but personally I am partial to Dick
Wall. I may be biased by being British but all are free to disagree as
long as we can all hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

I heard that Tor no longer likes "Here comes the Sun" by the Beatles
and that he reads the Chrome release comic book to his children every
night at bedtime.
