Hi Lisa, I have JAWS 8.0, and have had no problems running it on Windows XP as well as Vista. I am rather surprised though that an FS person would call you trying to sell you an upgrade, though. personally, if you're happy with what you have then there's no reason to upgrade. I used JAWS 6.0

Any now-minted SMA is current only from the current version of JAWS; so it's incorrect to call purchased upgrades to the current version SMA's - service maintenance agreements. A purchase of an SMA with JAWS8 will cover both JAWS9 and JAWS10 (if FS's upgrading practices are not altered meanwhile).
