this is a setting set either in cmos - not, in general, accessible to
the blind - or, for jaws, determined as a jaws setting. the default
in jaws is to start with the numlock disabled to use it as jaws's
reading keypad.

the opening screen it doesn't read correctly but alt a puts you in the

1. Highlight your computer icon and press enter.
2. Highlight your USB drive.
3. Press the application key.
4. Press the letter j and wait a few seconds and pull the USB flash drive out
of its port.
You are done.

However, if you just read a flash drive and don't write to it, it is
usually safe just to remove it.
