You say windows defender runs in real time. What does it mean when a
program runs in real time? Just curious.

i use all free programs never a problem. Just cause it does not cost
does not mean it is bad.
on the contrary some paid programs are not advised, like norton who
seriously messes with your system and is a resource hog.
For me I find the best all around protection is as follows:
1 AVAST Virus

Right now I have the MacAfee sweet, and windows defender runs in real
time.
I've also used Norton internet security before, and AVG. Recently I have
