Oh, over 139,000 albums, then waiting time is normal. This waiting time must
also occur with digiKam-6.4.0. But something doesn't fit together here, only
8000 images and so many albums, that doesn't fit.

FWIW, the problem is not restricted to ttf fonts. With version 5.18.5 on

That's for formats like PNG and JPG, not KRA, and apparently it's the
compression on the KRA file (which is a zip file) which is the problem, but
that should be off by default. I'm looking into it now.

Yes but what I understood is default level is 6, and "compress more" is 9. But
as an extrem saver I'd like to know if we could set the level with a slider

Yes, Exactly, it breaks any workflow. I use 'safe' colro labels: red, yellow,
green, blue and purple because those colors are available and universal in any
program and are written to xmp:Label.
