That's interesting. It seems that either 8 GB is not enough or swap is
compulsory, just for rendering HD video of any length. But it seems so. Anyway

MLT is the core thing behind Kdenlive, it does all the rendering
(https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/mlt), it is developed by different
people.

"Out of memory" messages suggest there is a memory leak somewhere. It's
unlikely in the Kdenlive itself, more likely in some effect or the MLT
framework. Which effects are you using?

No, because we incorporated new platform-agnostic Wayland-capable applet to
replace the old one since then. There is no way to return back.
