I'm compiling from the source code repository, and I'm getting a can't find
libfam.la error at link time. The only thing that I could find by googling
around is that this is a deprecated dependency. How can I disable this in
the configure scripts?

The dump says
QLCDNumber::setProperty( "NumDigits", value ) failed: property
invalid, read-only or does not exist
the kde crash handler looks like a dereference of a null pointer in
mlt_property_set_int.
Has anyone else come across this?

Thanks,
My problem was with ffmpeg. I ended up going with the --avformat-svn
for the mlt configure.
I'll post comments after I play with it.

1) yes, I can play video files with inigo.
2) no, my clips do not have any accents or spaces in its path.
Like I said, I can add the clips to the project, it's when I select the clip
that kdenlive crashes.
Thanks

nevermind, I had a sox-dev laying around from the distribution and the build
was picking up that instead of my compiled version. I took it out and now
everything seems to run beautifully. Gotta look at those build messages
closer :)

Is this behavior a KDE standard? If so, maybe the start up dialog box could
include a 'just open the app' option.

are the installation requirements for kdenlive on the web site current? Do
you have recommended version numbers for all the dependencies? Or at least
the dependencies that are important?
I'm just tweaking my ebuild file so that kdenlive comes out as the

Right now I've been working solely with the subversion kdenlive
version with Kubuntu Edgy 6.10 release with both i386 and amd64. It's
convenient since the ubuntu version of ffmeg in the repositories seem
to be recent enough for mlt.

I can still go ahead an make kubuntu packages if anyone is interested.

I was going to take a stab at a Kubuntu package, waiting for JB to get
better and finish off the release.

I'm a bit of a linux and a sourceforge newbie, so hopefully I'm posting to

It sounds like you don't have the "Project Monitor" showing but are
instead clicking the play button of the "Clip Monitor".
Try going to the View menu and make sure that "Project Monitor" has a

Also try using the space bar to start and stop
a tab along with the clip monitor and then kdenlive
does a really good job at switching back and forth between the 2

This is just what I've noticed over time. I haven't quite wrapped my
head around the order that kdenlive does compositing when you have
multiple layers to deal with so I would love a long explanation of
compositing order.

This is the commit for the fix (Feb 20):
https://github.com/mltframework/mlt/commit/4fd6c14958ac5bd739c8d2b66b86cbf99ae68c23
It was released in MLT 0.90 (June 2):

The sunab kdenlive-release PPA has MLT versions for both 0.90 and 0.88:

My next piece of advice would be to try the daily build or the unstable
package. Maybe there is something wrong with the sunab 0.90 package (I have
some suspicion since the date was wrong).

Developers,
I have created a patch for Kdenlive that adds support for the new MLT Dynamic
Text Filter to the effect stack.
The patch and a screenshot are here:

text outline and padding. The current patch is, in my opinion, the bare minimum
needed to make the effect useful. I may end up adding new patches to the Mantis
issue as I get around to adding those features. I also plan on writing a
tutorial for the Wiki when the feature eventually gets released.
