I was able to successfully crashdump using the steps above but with
'crashkernel=1024M' (default values are too low).
I'll mark this 'Invalid' for now, please re-test and if you encounter the

The Ubuntu 3.19.0-11 kernel has the latest upstream v3.19.3 updates.
The current Vivid kernel is now: 3.19.0-15. Can you test the latest

tested the issue with kernel 2.6.39,
and three Ubuntu live CDs 12.04, 14.04, and 15.04 (which was released today).
