I couldn't make the commit bisect work yet.
But I've realized one thing and I think it's an important one and maybe
a workaround for this issue: I booted up the laptop with no HDMI cable
connected to the HDMI output and I've tried to execute the xrandr
command and the HDMI output was there. So,

Okay so the macbook pro that normally has the same issue as the xps is
actually showing the bcmwl package as installable. So this could be an
issue specific to the xps13 it seems.

It was initially assumed the issue here was an out of sync archive with
the cd showing 0ubuntu4.1 and online archive 0ubuntu5 however after a
sync to get the archives straight on this morning image both show as
6.30.223.248+bcom-0ubuntu5 and sudo ubuntu-drivers still only shows
intel-microcode.

Samsung ML-1250 prints
Thanks Christopher, when i have some time i will try to go back to the
upstream kernel where it doesn't work. I think it may have been
ressolved in v4.3-rc1-unstable there were a heap of changes to mwifiex.
