Hi Michael,
can you confirm if the latest 5.4 kernel in the update works for you?
Christoph Roeder, please give the latest 5.4 kernel a try, if it's still not
working, please open a new bug with "ubuntu-bug linux" command, and attach
error log if possible.
Thanks

Excellent, thanks. Are you able to find out which minor release 5.6.N
the problem started in? Once we know the number it is sometimes easy to
identify the code change that caused it.
Please also test some current kernels like 5.11 and 5.12 to be sure it's
not something that's already been fixed.
Indeed comment #13 is bug 1905519, but I don't think that's related to
this bug.

Had review of above commits. The additional patches are for cleanups and
refactoring, and they can be cherry-picked any time necessary. I'm not
going to revise the SRU proposal.

Thanks for the report! Can you both boot the machine fresh and enable
oops_backtrace, by executing "echo 1 | sudo tee
/proc/sys/kernel/oops_all_cpu_backtrace" ? Then I'll need the full
dmesg, after the issue happens, as kailoran updated.
If that is not enough we might need a kdump later.
Thanks

Ubuntu 20.04 still has this bug with mutter 3.36.7+git20201123-0.20.04.1 amd64
and nvidia-340.
The workaround to set the wallpaper resolution to the screen resolution does
work though! Thanx for that!

correctly.
