Same problem, Lenovo E480 Ubuntu 22.04.01 LTS, it didn't wake up.
The only way to fix it (for me) was to manually update the kernel to the
version 6.1.4-060104-generic.

I tried to boot with your kernel, but could'nt because it was not
finding zfs modules and asked me to load zfs modules manually. I don't
know zfs enough to do what is being asked, but I do have a zfs encripted
filesystem so I cannot boot without zfs.

I have the same issue on my ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 Type 20TA with the latest
firmware.
Just wanted to add that the proposed workaround of disabling psmouse
(via boot options or via disabling in bios) is not working for me.

i'm using a docking, but also without the pc boot but i get black
screen.
I'm using 'signed' kernel, can i safely install the (unsigned) test
4.15.0-45 kernel?

As this issue seems far from being solved and I dont see any progess

I didn't find so far way to reproduce the issue systematically.
It doesn't seem to me load related as nodes with lower load crash more
often then ones with high load.
But I can confirm that the fix released with ubuntu 4.4.0-135 kernel
doesn't fix the issue.
As this morning (17/10/28) we faced

crashing the node yet.

I tried also to boot with 4.7.2-040702-generic with no success (it was an old
kernel that worked on this machine)
The first kernel version that I have on this machine is 4.5.0-040500-generic,
and even that one does not go after the splash screen. In previous ubuntu
releases everything was workin
I do not remember for sure but I guess it was the last kernel provided
with ubuntu 17.04. I upgraded 17.04 to keep in sync with security
updates. My guess is that it's the 4.10 "series"

It happened when upgrading from ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10
On 17.04 everything worked as expected on battery.
Steps that I tried as you suggested:
* I booted into 4.10 kernel and with battery power the problem still happens
* I booted into 4.15 kernel downloaded from the ubuntu mainline repo and
apport information
