Sadly Ubuntu 16.10 final does have this bug. Boot the ISO on a GTX 970
system and you just get an orange screen.
To work around the problem I have to add kernel parameter: nomodeset

I tried to purge nvidia proprietary drivers and boot with nouveau and
got exactly the same issue. The only difference is my screen is just
black.

Confirmed 4.6.0-10-generic_4.6.0-10.12 can boot without hitting the

Instead however, it boots seemingly without proper kernel mode setting.

Can you see if this issue is now also happening on the latest Yakkety -proposed
kernel, which is now based on the 4.6 kernel. If it does, we can perform a
kernel bisect to find the commit that introduced this regression.
