I think this might be a monitor problem.
I swapped the VGA and HDMI monitors and the system now comes back up as it
should BUT I have done this before and then it went bad again.
I think the next thing is to see if the Lenovo monitor has a software
upgrade but their website is down, so wait and se

For some reason I nearly missed your email, Google sent it to Promotions
and I only found it because it came up on my phone.
Cold reboot does not show the option of Wayland but logging out did but the
HDMI still failed to come up.
I also tried running both Bionic Beave
The first thing we need to do is check to see if this is a Xorg-specific
bug. Please try logging out (or rebooting) and select 'Ubuntu on
Wayland' on the login screen (button in the bottom right corner). After
you do that, does this bug still occur?
