Please verify the ui files don't set a particular font, so that the default
font is used then.

Please do so. I guess Qt Designer chooses whatever is the default in your
system.
It's not unusual for graphic UI designer to screw up files from time to
time. But I'm just an old-fashioned dev who still edits HTML in a
plain-text editor. :)
