John Denver was flying a Longeze that was modified a little by its builder.
John Denver had a suspended pilots license at the time and wasn't supposed to
be flying if I recall correctly.
The Longeze fuel system original Rutan design had the fuel selector valve
mounted near the floor between the
Never heard about Denver hitting a bird. I read an article about the crash
that said that when John tried to reach behind his shoulder, his left foot
pushed on the rudder peddle and flipped him over and down. he was too low to
recover. The article went on to say that NTSB set up a simulator
And LOW FUEL LEVEL and he knew it when he took off.. They never told whether
or not he actually ran out of fuel. Man from the Long Ez group from CA said he
hit a pelican, which came right through the canopy and clocked him. Loved the
guys singing and still do.

Larry; I just hated that disaster...what was he flying? I've been diving in
Monterey Bay and come across a piper that went in on final. Peter

I think the point of Mike's post about the loss of Bobby Muse's KR a few years
ago was two fold.
1) Like any other plane, the KR is not indestructible and will break up in
flight if over stressed. In this case, it was concluded that a portion of the
tail broke off due to severe turbulence.
I can confirm that I have needed ALL aileron movement.
My home strip is an agg strip, 23-05. no x strip. very prone to x winds.
Having many trees and buildings, when retuning home from a trip, and found
high wind gusty x wind on 23, coming over the trees and in south Wester, I
used full aileron

What a bummer! Bobby Muse's KR2 was one of the most beautiful KRs I've ever
seen. It looked like it rolled out of a factory when I saw it at Covington.

Absolutely ?Trailer it home and get used to it on the ground first. Just
having a pilots license really doesn't qualify you to just get in a KR and go
without some some training on the ground and a good check out of the systems.
Stay safe and alive.
