Now I wonder if this would also help for a worn crankshaft? :-)

Happy New Year to all the KR'netters! May 2017 be filled with lots of safe
KR flights!
Unfortunately my New years flight was not in a KR as both my flying KR2's
are "down for maintenance", one needs new brakes and the other has an oil
leak in the oil cooler.

Hi Everyone.
Yesterday was a great day for me, my KR pride and joy, ZS-VYZ is now back
at the flying field after a lengthy refurbish. I still need to do a bit of
work on the brakes, need to replace the hydraulic tubes, and she needs a
new oil cooler but she will be flying again soon restored to
the iPad/mini, I have been using one for a while in the
plane and I am really happy running software like Air Nav Pro and the great
EasyCockpit/EasyPlan/EasyWeather (Southern Africa only I think) suite of
software.

Hi Stef.
I might be slightly biased (it is a local product) but I think the MGL
products are really great! We have a lot of them installed at our local
field and everyone seems really happy. My personal experience has also been
great, it seems like a good product with good support and it is
I have 2 conventional geared KR2's, on both the landing gear is attached to
the front of the spar. With the seats empty and the front tank full they
are very light on the tail and it is easy to tip them onto the nose
especially if the plane is level. Once 1 or both seats are filled and the

With a nose wheel equipped KR it is quite easy to setup safe single person
operation with a hand propped VW.
I carry a chock with a rope that can reach the cockpit, I can then start
the plane, walk around and get into the plane and get comfortable. Once
ready I simply "reel in the chock" and I am

Hi Everyone.
I own a KR2 with a 2.3l water-cooled VW without electric start. I found
that once you have the priming cycle sorted out it really starts easy and
it is not dangerous, no more than any other hand propped engine.
I agree with the rule "NEVER open the throttle more than a crack" for
Hi Joe,
Thanks! The info is a bit old, will be updating it as time allows. Yes I do
have an old photo of the tanks, it now looks a bit different with different
seats but at least you can kind of see the tanks. They are made from
fiberglass, one behind each seat with around 18l capacity each. They

Interesting Steve!
I did not realize the AeroCarb was a close copy of the EFS-2! I am
running an EFS-2 on my 2.4 VW but I am looking at upgrading it to an
EFS-3 as I think it might be restricting the airflow a bit at the moment.
I wonder if the AeroCarb would be an option? I suppose I need to

Hi Larry, thanks for the info!
Yes, I agree if done correctly there won't be any danger of
de-lamination. My main reason for considering it is exactly the point
you are making, protecting the wood from oil and moisture. It was
actually the ingress of moisture over along period, while in

Do most builders glass the outside of the fuselage (wood bits) these
days? I seem to remember just sealing and painting the
