In my opinion Mr Falcones didn't do a lot of reserche or he speaks of
another sort of lace as bobbin lace. All I found out about lace
historie there was no bobbin lace in 14th century in Europe. It is a
novel and there the facts aren't always true.

I am not familiar with the novel in question, but I think that if Santina
Levey and other lace scholars who study the topic full time cannot pin point
the
moment when bobbin lace emerged from other techniques it would be extremely
unlikely that a novelist would know more than they do.
Some Arachne members have the CD's of old books that Tess scanned for the
Professor's lace book site (which everyone can access). In the first CD's are
books from my library. I think that on this subject it is enjoyable to
revisit the large 2-volume set by Elisa Ricci Old Italian Lace,
So my guess was right (and if I'd been paying attention, I would have
