My mother taught me to knit, crochet, embroider & sew, & bought the
Golden Hand Series, but the bit about bobbin lace in there didn't
register. My mother was teaching porcelain painting at the Bathurst
College's Winter School, & when I started working I attended a Spinning

Hi Sue - as someone else said this is Honiton Point. When Jacquie and I
were at Lace Convention in Worcester we were able to get a whole pile of old
patterns for Honiton point. A couple of days later at the Antiques Market
at Covent Garden (held on Mondays for anyone who is visiting London), I

Dear Susan,
What country are you writing about??
This is an international list, and I have privately written to you twice in
recent months to ask where you are writing from, so I (or we) could give
focused answers to your questions. A Yahoo address does not tell enough.

I thought of a place it might be on line, but have never looked for it. Go to
www.etsy.com and put in a search for bobbin lace. There is bobbin lace and

also a number of hackle pliers shaped like bobbins.
I caught a pbs tv program today called Knit and Crochet Today and went to
their website where among their free patterns I found a video showing how to
do hairpin lace and tunisian crochet. This link might work, although you may

Dear Jenny,
I've worked that hanky pattern and found the different approach to
working a hanky edging fascinating. For those that haven't seen
it - it is worked top to bottom like a mat - not around - starting
at one corner and working diagonally across to the opposite corner -

On that subject, since it just came up related to the recent article stating
lace was the trend, where else would one sell it, (aside from Etsy that I

The "article" is very vague seeming to encompass large knitted shawls and
scraps of bobbin lace of a size suitable for pasting in a scrap book.
Actually, I think it is probably pretty easy to find an old piece of bobbin

Sorry to have made such a stir. Of course they would not realize how much is
involved, but since knitting and knitted lace has enjoyed such a resurgence
the past decade, I hope/d that some exposure would help other lace forms.

I know I am going to regret bringing this to people's attention. It is
still fresh in my memory how a plan to make jabots in special presentation
