Hello All! Devon, I am most intrigued by your question & look forward to
answers from the experts. In the meantime, as one of the least experienced
lacemakers on Arachne, may I call your attention to the Lace Dealer’s Pattern
Book? When I saw your sample, I thought of the many fanciful floral s
Hi Devon:
I took a quick look at Kristensen’s “Tønder Lace: About Lace-making History in
Western Sønderjylland from the 17th Century till Today”, and I have are a
couple of thoughts for you:
First, the lacemakers weren’t following a set traditional style of lace; they

I have encountered a piece of Tonder lace dating from about 1800. I donât
doubt that it is Tonder of this date because it was identified by an
expert. However, I have never seen a piece that looked like this. The
design is odd. I guess it is based on a flower basket design. Most Tonder

I'm at Sweet Briar too - itching for classes to start!! I got a brief
preview of Bobbi's book last night. It is truly wonderful!
Had a lovely walk past the stables this morning and saw a white-tailed deer

Yesterday, after speaking to a fellow Estonian lace friend who attended the
Tonder Lace Festival a few weeks ago, I was wondering if any Arachneans,
who also were there, were going to post about their impression of the event.
Has anyone posted photos?

Thanks everyone for the help on the Tonder lace pins. I shouldn't have

not used anything that fine before.

Hi Adele and Candy -
It sounds like your lovely pins, Adele, are the same pins I use for
Binche. Originally, I got them from Holly (Van Sciver) who sold them in
small tubes of 150 pins per tube. And they *were* expensive, (especially
since one tube is not enough for most projects!!) and of co
I have googled and saw lots of pretty lace, a few bobbins and no
definitions on the size of the pins.
Generally Tonder uses very fine, long pins. I'm no Tonder expert, but I
feel the finer pins are better because you use very fine thread and you
often close your pins (ie, C-T-T, pin, C-T-T).
Traditionally, the bobbins used in Denmark are the long ones with spherical

East Midlands bobbin that you like. Since there are virtually no sewings in
Tonder lace, it's perfectly fine to use spangled bobbins, if that's your

I have just bought a few books on Bucks point (thanks to Pam) and I have
