I wouldn't pay for gold-plated pins. But I would definitely pay for very very fine long pins. I loved the ones Holly used to sell--the discontinued Mechlin pins. Evidently lacemakers aren't that keen on gold-plated pins ;) However in the broader textile field, there would likely be a market for them among those who need pins for a single purpose, rather than 'using' them e.g. for display, for presentation, to make a special item, for a 'special occasion.' I live about 25 meters from the ocean and have had no problems with brass pins pitting. So I wouldn't buy gold plated pins. But it is nice to know that pin manufacturers are trying to improve their products. Now, if only they could guarantee that every pin would have a pointed end :-)

Vivienne, My pins are used all the time and bend and get replaced before they become unusable through tarnishing. I have been using these kind since 2001 and when they became hard to get at one time I bought some silver type I have two pots of those and have never bothered to use them!!! no I
