Using latest SVN lazarus under Linux. There is a difference when you specify the directory in (1) "Compiler Options -> Unit Output Directory" and (2) when you specify the -FU in the "Compiler Options -> Other -> custom Options" I have not specified a Target Filename in "Project Options". (1) see
