Joe, We are basically on the same page. After looking at the photo on the 9th, I would use a 180 tooth gear to fill the space (The standard duplex size (7-1/2 off the top of my head)) to go one direction and two 90 tooth gears to go the opposite direction. I would put bearings in each gear.

tim, there is a specific reason i felt i needed to add two gears...the existing, standard legacy direction gear has the two washers on either side of the gear...if i added just one gear i would have two gears meshing against each other but without any washers in place to almost guarantee
