I found this site VERY interesting in many aspects included simple concept

Hi Bill,
Sorry for this terrible fire...
I will definitely use you design and ask for my neighbor who as a steelshop
next to mine to think about a way to make a stronger version for heavy stock.
Thank you again.
I expect to have my LOM 1800 ready to use in two weeks.
That is the first step!

I’m sorry Emmanuel I had a fire some years back which took everything including
that mill all that is left is the link you see online
But the idea could be done on most of the mill models it’s not too difficult
especially if you have any engineering background
The interesting thing was if you
Thank you Bill!
Your work is precisely the one I refered to and I was looking for! I lost
your link last week and now you found me. The magic of the web. :-)
So I guess that the brillant transformation you did on you model 900 can be
done on a model 1200.
I would dare to ask you if you have a
The 4x gears came with its own , unique carriage as you call it and replaced
everything on the end of the mill

should be a short video here of mine working ignore the chain at the back it is
not part of it
Bill
in regards to this 4X gear set, is the "carriage"(what holds the gears)
specific to the 4X gear set?...in other words, is the carriage that came
with our legacy's(1000,1200, 1800, etc.) usable for the 4X gears?...or did
the 4X gear set have it's own, unique carriage?...if that is the case, then
Here is something I did years a go modifying a model 900 for template following
the same idea but cutting from the top would lower the work under the rails to
let the mill cut larger diameters than the mill is designed to do.

Yes the 4x gears will fit the 1800

Hi Bill,
I definitely found a previous post with pictures with someone lowering the
mecanism so it could give room for 18 in. turnings.
There was minimal adaptations to reach this result.
The problem is that I lost the link...
I will have to look for my google historic files.

Hi Curtis,
Thank you for your reply.
I got the picture form a company that uses CNC lathes:
http://www.heartwoodcarving.com/full-round-half-or-34-corner-columns
VERY nice work.
I hope I will be able to do such turnings soon
Emmanuel
PS: The answering system is quite confusing. I am not sure my
Hi Emmanuel
Having sold a number of 4X Gear Sets over the years I can confirm that they
worked with Legacy 900, 1200, 1800 & 2000.

Hi Bill,
I have seen somewhere that the 4X multiplier gear is not adapted for the
LOM 1800. It was done for LOM 2000+.
Is that true?
Probably it can be adapted for the LOM 1800...
I hope so

Welcome to the Group Emmanuel,
Who need a CNC for one off jobs. Sometimes the older machines are more
adaptable, I do hope you find what you are looking for re: size
Please keep us all informed as to how you get on.
Cheers from

One of our members widened his mill search the archives of this group and you
will find a blow by blow of him doing it
So it is possible. and the column in the picture is defiantly possible that is
the sort of thing the mills are made for and a very great deal more
Oh yes and Emmanuel welcome
