Well that is simple Richard, then you would do a reeded design.  In this way there wouldn't be as many ledges to capture sawdust.  But if there is no sawdust, how do you know you are working?  LOL   A Y-axis template follow of a gently flowing leg pattern that is reeded would be my choice.
