The organisation of your picture files/folders is not really a matter for this
list. All I have to say is that I create a separate folder for the legacy
pictures, storing them as jpg, gif or png depending on what sort of picture it

Yes, the painful problem of organization. there is no solution that fits all
conditions.
I found in my filing designs, that I was most successful when starting from the
end, that is - How will I be looking for the object when needed. by year, or by
surname, or by event, etc., and then setup
I am such the oddball here! I have no photos in Legacy. If I were to publish
something I would add the photos manually to the submission.

Michele,
You are in good company, or nearly. The only ones I have in my files are photos
of the individuals. The others which I add to my webpages are added directly,
mainly because I can then position them where I wish.

How many goats want or need web sites?
I started inputting my genealogy records a long time ago and on another
program back when documenting/sourcing was a blank screen. I was a
terrible typist, so I did a lot of abbreviating. I also figured that
there was no one else who'd be interested in my work, which turned out

Hi Susan,
I'd try rebooting.
But are you sure you have two different family files open? It doesn't
pop up if you have the same file on both sides.

It's funny, but I didn't even get that pop up warning me I had the
same file open (even though I didn't). It just played dead. I noticed
later that if the family file on the left is highlighted, you can't
select from the right and drag to the left. Thats when you get the
