Hello List,
Does Legacy have a way where you can type in a City/Town and State and it
will show you the County other than online? I have one that is in the
RootsMagic
program, but if I uninstall RM the Place Finder is gone also.

Just enter what you know - eg Town and State - and then click on the
little globe symbol on the right of the field. (There's a down-arrow, a
plus, then the globe.)
Terri,
Thank you for posting your findings. In my main database I get Error 91, in
an other database I never get Error 91. This is the same on an Acer laptop
and a Dell laptop, both running Vista. This would seem to indicate the
computers are not the cause of the problem. I do not have any
Wow! Great detective work, Terri. It just worked for me.
Thanks a heap. Yvonne

Ann,
I agree that the problem is not the computers. I don't think it's even the
program but since I am not a programmer I am just guessing. I really think
there is a problem with the family file itself. I have 4 Legacy databases.
Three of them are fine but the largest one is the problem
Yvonne,
You're welcome. I figured that would help someone.
Pauline,
I did not try a backup with the file closed. Didn't know that would work. It is
definately worth a shot.
Hopefully if we all report to Legacy support our Error 91 findings, they will
be able to figure out what is causing
Lloyd,
For current counties you can try the RootsWeb Town Search here
http://resources.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi.
Or, it you do not wish to purchase AniMap, email me privately with the
city/town, state and year in question and I will look it up tonight after work
for you.
Fill in what you know -- like: Marietta, , Pennsylvania, USA -
leaving room for the missing bit of inforation - then click on the
little GLOBE ICON. It is built into LEGACY!!

Forgot about that feature. However it only works for **current** county not at

It works - but in a strange way. If you put into LEGACY - say a
baptism for 1702 in Annville, , Pennsylvania, USA and click on the
Globe - it will tell you Annville is in LEBANON COUNTY. If you make
the location correct and try to save it - Legacy will tell you
Lebanon County did not exist in
Terri,
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I will try this.

If you go to your master location list, you can choose a specific location
and then on show list. This will give you a list of people that have used
that location.

Keith,
I do not have the Global settings loaded. I tried it when V.7 came out, but
could not on dial-up it would take forever to load anything so I removed it. I
wanted something that I can use that does not require me to be online.
RootsMagic has a good on called Placedb. Just type in a
That IS a big download - forgot about that since I am on cable and it
did not take very long at all... Once you have it - you do not need
to be OnLine to use it - it is a huge database. Was not thinking.
