Hello,
I have been handling the numerous State indexes (marriage, birth, death, etc.)
that have been slowly making their appearance online by treating them as
"generic websites".
I see that there are SourceWriter templates for such indexes if they are in
England or Wales, but cannot find
Thank you for the excellent advice (Jennie Benson & Connie Sheets)on using the
basic source system for citing these marriage and divorce indexes. I created
the source and it is working great. Thank you for your help.

I like using Sourcewriter and find the templates useful, however, I cannot find
a Sourcewriter template for marriage indexes or divorce indexes. My state is
putting a marriage index online and will soon be putting a divorce index online
as well.
As a workaround for the marriage index, I have
Thank you to everyone who gave their thoughts on how to source what Ancestry
calls a "family tree".
I hope that I did not give the impression that I was assuming that the tree is
factual. I just want a way to record where I found clues as to where a
collateral line may have moved to.

I found what Ancestry.com calls a "Family Tree" on their website. It isn't
really a family tree but a short list of related people.
I looked in the archives and see that many people suggest putting Ancestry.com
as a repository and the collections found on Ancestry (such as WWI Draft

I recently came across several interesting newspaper clippings including items
like "so and so attended a birthday party" and small bits of interesting
tidbits along with clippings of a relative's letters to the editor.
I am interested to know how other Legacy users enter things like these.
Hi Again,
I am wondering if anyone uses a "Vacation" event and if so, how do they
structure the sentence. Or is anyone of the opinion that vacation information
should be just put into general notes?
Also, thank you for the Godparent event ideas. I'm still trying to figure out
the best way
Hello,
I am wondering how various Legacy users enter godparent information.
I checked in the archive and see references to an event called
"Godfather/Godmother", but I don't have that event listed in my events. I
realize that I could create such an event, but before I do that, I would like

Hello Again,
Now that I am starting to understand the backup procedure, I notice that I am
on to the next problem.
When I try to add a new individual to my family file, I am getting the
following Error Message:
Error getting next deleted RIN.
Error 3021: No current record.

Thank you to you who wrote giving me advice on my backup problems. I wrote the
other day asking how I could create a new backup each week in case I need to
go back to a certain point in my data entry.
I think I am starting to understand now. I guess I was confused as to the

Hello,
I am about 1/3 of the way into entering individuals from my FTM program into
Legacy. I have checked on the archives and cannot find enough information for
a question that I am having with backing up my family file. The book merely
tells me that backing up is a good idea but doesn't go i
Thank you to those who wrote with advice on how to handle things like this. It
is interesting to see the various ways of entering data.
It is taking a little bit to get used to thinking in Legacy-format as opposed
to my Family Tree Maker conditioning and so I appreciate this basic advice a

I am still very much a newbie with Legacy. I have over 9,000 names to enter
from my FTM family file. I have been experimenting with about 50 names from my
own family file. Before I get too far, I would like to make sure that I am
handling some basic information in a way that I will not regret

I tried that URL (www.clokwk.com) and it is not valid. I do not have the
training CDs for Legacy 7 Deluxe. Could you double-check that URL?
Thanks,

Hi Christine,
According to one of the training CDs that comes with Legacy 7 Deluxe, there is
a program available at www.clokwk.com that details world maps. I went to the
site and it looks like the focus is on Europe and the Middle East. I don't
know anything about the program, but plan to t
I have the same wish. I am new to Legacy after years with FTM and TMG. I
enjoy the email list and think that a forum would be a nice compliment to it.
A forum would be an efficient way to access specific types of content which
would allow people to see several thoughts on a specific topic al

What is the difference between the Index View and the Names

Thank you to those who gave me good advice when I asked about how to clean up
my gedcom file from FTM into Legacy.
I have been trying to get to know Legacy today and have watched all of the
training videos at least once. I am getting a pretty good understanding, but

I see that there is a way to add alternate names for individuals.
How can I have alternative names appear in the name index?
Also, can I have several alternative names and have them all appear in the name
index?
Thanks!

I am using the standard Legacy 7 as a trial right now. I am looking for an
alternative to FTM. I have several questions, but will ask one at a time and
hope to get at least a few people's ideas or comments on each.
My first question is how does one enter a child when the sex is unknown?
