what the record actually says, so I do use the " or do followed by a
[bracket comment] that indicates what is being "dittoed". As Cathy
says, it shows what interpretations I am making, rather than what the
record actually s

I believe in transcribing what is there and showing any
interpretation or addition in square brackets which I use sparingly.
I prefer to be very clear what is interpretation even if it's just
filling in the ditto. Dittos are often done in haste and aren't
always correct. The only exce

I do this particularly for main line ancestors and if I'm unsure of
the transcription.
