I am using Adobe Reader 7.0.9
I do not have Acrobat 8.0 and when I check for updates
on the Reader, it does not show 8.0 as being available.

It sounds as if your computer knows that Eudora is the default email.
Perhaps it wasn't when Adobe was installed. Adobe Reader is often
installed on a computer pretty early on.

I use Eudora version 7 as my email program and I can't
get it to work. I assume Eudora does not provide the
interface which other programs do.
If someone knows how to make it work, I would appreciate
hearing from them. Otherwise
