I did a quick test and it looks like if you do the rename from the
Legacy Picture Center, that it will change ALL entries.

I also noticed each time I select to manually find (Browse for the file
yourself) the 30 files I am sent to the
Default location of family files, instead of Default location of
picture, sound, video files Picture Files which is the dir

You could use a master source and have the picture attached to it. Then
cite that source on all people involved. If the picture name changes, you
only need to fix the master source.
