I have been using a ? for a first name or a surname if I do not know what it is. If I do not know either I enter a ? for both. Examples: ? Smith, John ? or ? ?. This method works for me, may not work for others. I have found that some people just enter the surname or the given name, when I run a

I agree Kathy. It turns out to be a benefit, too, when creating a report with an index. Instead of having a bunch of females all listed together by just their first names preceded by a comma, they appear all together, but with their married name in brackets. I find that more useful in the index. K

Where I have a father of a child and do not know the mother's name I am getting her put in reports as " unknown ". Is there any way of deleting the " unknown " mother please ? I have tried unlinking her but can not find out how to make this work without loosing the child from the father. Regards
