I personally would go with the death certificate in that instance. Many
census, in my studies, are based on the age they say - not always accurate.

I usually set up an Alt Birth, Alt Death (etc) event with the conflicting
info, make sure in notes in each it is clear what the source is, and take
the most-likely-to-be-right as the primary (just like with Alternative
names). They can always be swapped if I change my mind as to what is most

I actually do something a little differently then using the Alt-dates.
In the Notes section of the Birth field, for example, I put in a
little note in [[privacy]] brackets, so that I will know what all the
variations
