Bill,
I think I can see what you are getting at but confess that I cannot explain
all the behaviour which you are seeing.
I take it the you are referring to the use of the Customising Display
function in Family View by right clicking the field names. If so then
changing these affects all
Hi Ron (and Bill)
I also was a bit lost whether Bill was referring to the Customising
Display but since that applies to all family files I wasn't sure.
Nor do I see how changing the labels moved the Baptism events out of
the main section into the Events section so perhaps I've
misunderstood.

Thanks to all those that responded, but I think you
are missing the point because of my inability to use
the correct terms. When I said family file, I meant my
main data-base. This I closed. I then opened the
Sample data-base that came with Legacy. Why would any

Now I'm puzzled. I've changed the Husband/Wife labels to
Partner/Partner in several instances. It didn't (and shouldn't) change
those labels on other relationships. It sounds, to me, that other
people are saying that changing a field like this in one family will
change it in all familues. Someone
Hi Bill,
Some settings in Legacy affect every Family File that you open.
This includes the Labels in Family View.
Customise them when one Family File is open and they'll stay that way
when you open another Family File.
Similarly, if you choose options for a report and then open another

So no manipulation of the Sample Database will
change your own
database - but changing Legacy general settings like
the layout of
the different View Tabs while the Sample Database is
open will also
change those settings for all Family Files.
Does that help?
Cathy, everything you
Hi Bill,
I can only think that you didn't properly change the field labels
back. You need to click on the button with the three dots and choose
the field you want - you could change the display name but that
doesn't change the field to match that display name.
I don't know of anything that
