Sherry,
I sent in a recommendation regarding duplicating source citations and the
source clipboard. I would appreciate it if you could let me know what the
developers might be considering in the future.

The hardest thong I struggle with is determining the precise name of the
location at the time. But, if you have it, use it. All records should show
the place name at the time of the event, regardless of where in the world it
is. I like the idea of using the location notes to indicate what the
Wow! Sounds good. Let me know what you find out! I'm a newbie all around

I downloaded and installed the full version of Legacy. The CD was mailed. I
note in the instructions about installing the Geo Location Database. Since I
don't recall that in the downloaded install, how can I determine if it was
installed or I need to reinstall from the CD?

I am switching to Legacy after almost 20 years with another program. My
database has about 12,000 names. Needless to say, I want to make this as
painless as possible.
Are there things I can before I make the transfer to facilitate the import?
Are there things I should or should not do?

Hi Cheryl,
Use the Options from the menu bar. Select Customize then use the Other
tab. Down in the lower left, select 'Geo Location Database'. I do
believe that will send you on your way if you follow the instructions
on the screen.

Some of that depends on your reason for switching. Some questions:
What progam are you switching from?
What feature in Legacy in driving you to switch?

Hi Cheryl.
Legacy Import's has a tool to 'map' tags not recognized in the gedcom.
It is down in the lower left where it says 'customize'.

Very good. I found them. I downloaded them all and attempted to install

Cheryl,
You can install as many as you wish. Myself, I only have U.S. and the
Europe. I have no reason to install others.
If you downloaded them, use them.

Thanks. I just uninstalled and reinstalled using the CD. That worked fine. I
couldn't install both US and Europe from the download, something with the US
file I think.

My suggestions include, after running the GEO flavors, (separately), next go
to locations, and scroll the list to see if you have any 'near duplicates', to
combine together. Then, run a merge, because if you have no duplicates (because
your real good), then the computer KNOWS there are none.
Thank you, both of you. So there is no single NOTE area that applys, then
your ideas seem workable, I'll have to look into them. Thanks,
Todd.

That way, if I want to find the place on the map in Legacy, I can find it just

I didn't understand what Richard was talking about with merge but you've

I see your point, but I prefer utilizing the extra note fields to
indicate the changes in what a place was called. For example, why put
the Colony of Massachusetts or Upper Canada and create duplicate place
names for the exact same place, just called a different name in certain
times. To me,
