Hello
I have been given a very old fdb file by a friend
who wants me to look at it to enable migration of
the data to a newer family tree software i.e.

It was last modified in 1998 according to the
properties of the file in Windows Explorer. That

convert it to the latest file format.
If you need to retain the original format for some reason make a copy of

Why respond? Now the url is in the archive twice! If it looks like SPAM, just

Thank you Brian
I did try that as I already had the latest version of Legacy but had the same
result when I did the Legacy 2 as explained in my previous email.
Could it be that it's not a Legacy file after all??
Thanks,

I don't know what you mean by "Legacy 2". Are you referring to v2? It
won't run on newer computers. Try installing the latest v7.5
Standard Edition.
If you want to contact supp...@legacyfamilytree.com and email the file
to us we can take a look at it.

Sorry yes I did mean v2. It was just an idea to try to open it there instead of
the latest version as neither will open the file.
Hence my query does anyone know if there was another software program with the
extension fdb before 1998?
Ok I will send you the file at Support. Thanks.

Yes, but at least Support has acknowledged it!! Maybe they will try and do
something about it!! Just sayin'!

I did a Google search and found a several sites that list file
extensions and the programs that use them. There are several programs
that use the .fdb file extension so it is possible that this is not a

Hi, all. This may sound silly, but I'm about to "get serious" about doing my

Perhaps I am missing obvious, but I do not see a

Arnold,
I don't think that you can change the default which is set to Legacy, as you

Jane,
When you open the To-Do list from either the menu bar or View>To-Do List and
click on the Add button then choose “Add to General”, you will create a
“general to-do’. However, when you click on the To-do icon from the
individual’s screen and click Add, you are creating an “individual to-do”
For myself, I use individuals to-dos for birth certificates, etc., and general
for books about families or places. It is all about the sorting.
There is no right or wrong way.
