tried to install) and my desktop, where I have successfully installed.
Interesting but still not exactly what I hoped for. Would be nice if

Happy to help. The program is still developing as people report bugs. I'll
double check the blood Relation bit on mine and let the developer know about it.
I'll also let them know you had issues with laptop vs desktop installation.
I found out about the program through the Lost Cousins
Bernie, I've just double checked the blood relation bit you mentioned -
Direct Ancestors is what you want for what you describe as actual
relation.
Blood relations are anyone who shares the same ancestors as you.
Other than that, I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve.
I'll pass on the info
Kathy, I think the issue is Microsoft .Net Framework 4 vs Microsoft .Net
Framework Client.
I want it to give me the relationship, not just say blood relation. In

easier for me when searching for certain names (bold vs normal isn't enough
of a difference for me)

I had an image file that showed up in the Picture Center at the top of the
picture list with a file name beginning with ? ...
?IL_Cook_1900 we'll call it for now.
I renamed the file there in the Picture Center to be IL_Cook_1900 (dropping the

What ultimately made you decide to take the cemetery name out of the Location
field? Just curious.

Great blog comments!! But I see they left Michael Hait's proposed
alternative unevaluated. I tended to agree that the grave stone is the source,
like the census is the source... and then include where you found it. Then
again, I don't use Find A Grave for my own ancestors much. Hmm...
Thanks, Cheryl, though I had to chuckle when I read about pre-registration. We
are not nearly so formal! ;)

I did get so far as to find out that for an individual, the individual's
pictures print before that person's marriage's pictures. For the ONE I tested,
he didn't have event pictures, so I don't know where those would
fall--something to test further.
My original question was really more about
Thanks, Brian. I think adding these events would be very helpful.

I had decided to leave the cemetery names out of the burial location field to
minimize the number of locations in the master location list. However, because
the search options are better with the cemetery name in the location field
rather than the address field, I changed my mind and left the
Kathy, Thanks for that explanation. I don't think I've run into anything in my
family research that would warrant that, but I will surely keep this in mind.

And will these files then be part of the backup?

None of the settings files are part of the backup. Only those specific
to the Family File you're backing up. Specifically, the data file,

It's wise to do a regular backup of your hard drive. If you make sure

Hi,
Just wondering, given that the locations are supposed to be a 4-part
location (city, county, state, country), what should I do for English
Australian locations which typically only have three parts City, County,
Country (for UK) or City, State, Country (for Australia)

How can I add legitimate locations to the location database?
For example, the Australian location database has a number of suburbs

How can I add (when needed) these other suburbs so that they are able to be

Hi Kathy
The 4 part location does not suit Australian or UK places (and those in many
other countries) and trying to force them into it using blanks and commas looks
terrible and isn't accurate. If the Origins and Migration reports in Legacy 8
don't support places outside the USA and their 4

Hi Kathy
When I enter a new place, I just click the down arrow next to it to bring up
the map. I don't use Geocode. If the place is not obvious or is missing from
the map, it is very rare. If I know where it is I move the pin there. I then
click on the Verified column.
If I don't know where
A cursory search of the archives will reveal that the arbitrary use of the four
part location works for very little. Legacy likes it, and has designed features
that depend on it. There was no need to do so, but they did it anyway.
Many of us, especially those not in the USA, find it obnoxious

Sherry,
Being a non American - I just put the name of the Cemetery,
Town/City, County, Country, in the location place for all my English
burials. Then if I should know the exact location of the grave I add
the details under the Burial Notes (Lot number, grave number etc.).
It all comes out nicely
