Hi,
I've been doing a lot of intense updates recently trawling probate records.
One thing I'd love to be able to do quickly when having to split current
information stored against 1 person into 2 separate people (same name, just
a new RIN) is duplicate my current individual record... I looked for
There is an enhancement request in our tracking system to be able to do
this. Sort of like a reverse
merge. As soon as we have our tracking system back up and running I will
add you as an additional requester. The programmer is in the process of
moving our tracking system over to the new server.

Regretfully, I do not clearly understand about which you are talking !

Subject: [LegacyUG] Anyone know of a quick way to duplicate an individual?
Hi,
I've been doing a lot of intense updates
This approach seems to work:
Tag the individual(s) you want to duplicate.
Export a gedcom with only the tagged individuals included.
Import the gedcom into your family file - the duplicates will have new RINs,
separate from the "originals."

Here is a process that would work:
1. Untag everyone in your DB
2. Use Tag 1 to tag only the individual you want to duplicate.
3. Export the Tag 1 person to a Legacy file.
4. Open Legacy file with 1 person you exported and rename the person or make
any other changes you want.
5. Open your original
I have been working on a new line based on DNA discoveries most of this
year. Recently I looked at some of my old line and found that all of my
several thousand old entries have lost their comments. I checked an old
March 2019 backup and they are missing there too. I checked a backup for

It would also be nice to be able to click on a button and have the searched
fields made into a new record.
I would think it a similar approach to duplication.
Ok Perhaps not :-)

Wasn't wanting an submerge, but a quick duplicate individual. Pieces of info belonged to each of the 2 real people. So I wanted to then choose what to delete in the original and new person definitions. Thanks, AndrewOn Jun 2, 2019 16:19, Ian Macaulay wrote:It would also be nice to be able to click

Don Quigley’s method works well, without dramas. I have done exactly that –
mainly when I have included a lot of text descriptions in the Notes, and don’t
have media attachments/links or sources, stories, etc.
Those provisos have never been a problem, because the “duplication” scenario
If you export to a GEDCom file, you will most likely loose Legacy information,
since the standard is about 25 years old and does not fully support the modern
programs. Export to a new Legacy file ensures all the individuals information
is maintained.

I hope you have a date on the Dec backup where you found your missing
comments. If it is not part of the file name created by Legacy you can
find the file date by checking the file properties. Windows should tell
you when the file was created.
In the current file you can search for and tag all
