Michele - Thank you for the decision of what is appropriate for
discussion on the ListServ. I guess that if you have a genuine question
about the Legacy Software, you have to Google the answer. Some people
DO NOT use FB and other limit their usage.
Personally, I have been reprimanded by
Steve - other lists do it - if they are programmers (like they say) they
can figure it out - it is all about desire.

Jeanette - many of the helpful hints on using Legacy do not make it to

Sherry,
While there is extra that can be done on the FB discussion, can the

FB here on the ListServ? I have used the FB discussion before and been
rather dressed down by some of the 'other users' about my comments. I
Bill - as far as some people are concerned - YES. I agree with most
that the FB group is very active with many EXPERTS posting replies to

the new ListServ when the previous one crashed.
There should be cross-posting to
I agree, I saw something on my mobile device in FB and when I got to the
desktop computer, I could not find it. FB is very disappointing for
doing research, much less helpful tips if you don't remember where you
saw it. At list with a listServ, you can search for the referenced

I think it is a reply to the previous response from Sherry that the
Facebook page is more active than the email list. There are many people
who dispise (even hate) FaceBook for the trash it provides and saw value
in the email list. Both should be able to coexist, but it appears that

Prior to last night, I knew very little about the various types of
'numbering systems' (http://eogen.editme.com/NumberingSystems) that
genealogy researchers use. To say that this is a little confusing is an
understatement. There are many different options with many different
purposes. Why are
Gary, have you tried using Legacy on your desktop with your data stored
in your OneDrive that comes with your Windows 10 software or with DropBox.
I use it that way and then can access my data for whatever computer.
You only want to have the data open on one device at a time to maintain
integrity
Colin,
Have you tried LibreOffice? Their Access component is also called
'Base' and can be downloaded at www.libreoffice.org.

Check out Evert's link to ZipperSoftware also. He has a collection of
40+ Legacy Family Tree add-on tools available, including the Web Page
Creator. I use TNG for my personal website, but have not upgraded to
the latest version yet.
Just providing alternatives that I have found useful
For months now, I have had a problem with the Error 13 since upgrading

I would go one step further - save the one you think you have been
working on to a new name (or just check the 'modified' date in the file)
and then check the other file for merging any data that is different
between the two. That way, if you have been updating two different
files, you have the
I am trying to work through the Genealogy Do-Over (sort-of) and have a

In most cases, there are primary sources (1930 US Census) and secondary
sources

Can someone please assist me on the home tab in Legacy 8? Ever since
Legacy 8 has released (I paid to upgrade to Deluxe) the home tab has had
a 'data mismatch' error. No matter what I do, I continue to get the
error. I think that this project has gone to the trash heap since
moving to version 8
Colin,
There are a couple of issues here -
First, are you putting the computer to sleep or is it automatically
going to sleep based on power management settings?
Second, is there a reason for the computer to be put to sleep or do you
just want the monitor to go blank?
Third, is your computer set
I got an email this morning about this being available for download. Is
it fixed? Are there still bugs that need to be resolved before it is

Let me weigh in on this discussion. I agree with what everyone has
said. But Cathy Pinner has hit on an important point. Using a
'Cloud-based' service is very important and very practical. And it is
not just for back-ups either. I have begun using my 'OneDrive' cloud to
have my Legacy Data

Pat - I used a program 'FreeFileSync' (http://www.freefilesync.org/) to
