Actually I just went through this BETA process for 'Perfect Photo Suite 8' by
Onone Software. They actually went through 3 public BETA versions before the
final version was released last week.

I think you are referring to the Microsoft “Public Beta’s”.
Microsoft is the only software OEM that I am aware that has done this.
I have done Beta testing for several OEM’s and it is not unusual to go through
3-5 versions. On one beta we had 9 versions to test, before it was sent

I purchased the download-only versions of Legacy 8 and the manual. The email
containing my customer number contained not only the instructions for
downloading and unlocking the deluxe version but the manual as well. Look down
towards the bottom of the email for those instructions.
At one time, after the formalized Beta testing by professionals, often software
was released to the general public still labeled as “Beta” for the first while.
This had several benefits:
1. The wider “public” group, using a much wider assortment of software,
hardware, and personal
