Enter an AKA but for such a significant change you'll also want to add
notes so enter a Name Change event (or whatever you choose to call it).
Since you have an approximate or exact date, then this will show up in
chronological order which will be more use than just having an AKA.

I would be inclined to enter them with an a.k.a. Several years into the
future, the next generation may be looking for them..it would
help if both names were on the file. Just a thought.
Not sure if that's any help in your circumstance, but that's what I would
do.

I am working on my wife's immediate family entering into legacy 8.0.0.538
deluxe.
My wife's father was one of 11 siblings (6 sisters + 4 brothers) All born with
same surname.
Just before marriage due to circumstances one of the brothers changed name
(Christian + Last name)
He then got
