The source is the directory you get after unpacking the tarball. The
build directory is where you perform the build from. For

hello everyone i am new to linux and linux from scratch while i am builiding linux from scratch using live cd i copy the packages.tar.bz2 from lfs-sources to /mnt/lfs/sources then extract them .then in all expect three the book says to delete the source and bulid folders of he package .
