On the other hand, maybe your Libretto is shutting down before the disk
cache on your drive has actually updated the drive contents.

The reason for the ScanDisk running at startup is that you have a bad
shutdown. Disable the ScanDisk does not solve any thing.

I can't tell you why it's happening, but if ME is like W98 and W95, you
MIGHT be able to turn off the scanning at boot
