There is a rule which is quite obscure now about collision of
rests and notes when there are three or four voices on a staff. If
there is not enough space between the upper and lower voices for a
rest for an inside voice, that rest is placed *before* a stem,
*always*, never tucked in under the low

I can't recall that I have ever seen this convention in printed music.
Are you sure that this is good typesetting practice?
Lilypond is the first time I've ever seen lilypond's practice.

To get horizontal beams (I know, they're usually horrible, but essential
in drum scores) the manual suggest to set beam damping to 10. I
tried even 10, but still they are not really horizontal.
Rune Zedeler proposed in 2002 on this list a hack to that purpose, but
know it causes Scheme

You cannot easily use lilypond-book with TeXLive, but you can
use it with the teTeX package in cygwin, which should work
just as well unless you use some very specific features
of TeXLive. To do this, you should first rerun setup.exe
and install the packages tetex-base and tetex-extra, if you

Marks - I want to put some text on a barline. I thought it was "\mark
\markup", but that centres the text over the barline - no use when it's
a long text :-( I want the text to start over the bar, not centred. How

What should I do?
In TeXlive there is no lilypond package so I suppose I must use cygwin
and lilypond-book.
But I am little confused about instructions given in lilypond doc in
section lilypond-book.

As has already been pointed out, Steve's reply was nonsens, since
you are using a prebuilt package that should work out of the box.
First of all, Riky seems to have been hit by the strange bug that
gives version 2.2 as the default version the first time you run
setup.exe but the intended version 2.
I hate to mention the obvious thing, but did you run the lilypond
setup script? They're called "lilypond-login" or "lilypond-profile"
and they are in the buildscripts/out directory. You only need to use
one of them, although I don't know which one is appropiate for Cygwin.

Hi,
Does anyone know how to draw "barre" / ceja in guitar notes using lilypond ?
I've seen arpeggio bracket notes in manual, but I need to place fret notation
on that arpeggio.
Thanks,
