Hi,
I'm writing a lead sheet with one staff with melody and chords and I have
the following problem: because I have some repeats (\alternative), the chords
are printed above it, and this creates lot of space between the melody and
the chords.
There is a way to move the chords closer to the melody,
Hi,
I have looked carefully in the manual, but have not managed to find any
information on how to do the following. (Version 2.4.2, Linux)
I need to place a turn with a sharp sign below and another sharp sign
above. I tried
a4^\markup { \teeny \sharp }^\turn^\markup { \teeny \sharp }

A question I can't seem to find the answer to in the manual or online:
Is it possible to represent powerchords, i.e. those consisting of only a
root note and fifth, in the ChordNames notation? Using ^3 as part of the
notation does not produce the desired effect, the chord is still
rendered as a
On page 205 of Ch. 9, pdf Lilypond documentation for v. 2.5.19, a
"trick" is given for raising markup text. It appears, as it has in
previous versions, that the "raised" example has a null space ("")
rather than an empty space (" "). If so, it would explain why (at least

LilyPond comes with a small program that can convert a MIDI file
into the input format used in LilyPond. However, it is well-known
that this program does not work very well and most people who try
it seem to come to the conclusion that it's much faster to enter
the music directly in LilyPond instea

That should be handled automatically by the Cygwin installation program.
Just try to rerun setup.exe once again, that usually helps.

I could not compile test.ly. Maybe because I didn't
install http://lilypond.org/download/fonts/,
but I did not know how to. I once used 2.2.2 and it worked. I'm sorry, if you
know what the problem might be, or how to install those fonts, that would be
great. Thank you.

Hi,
I am trying to get lilypond-book working to produce text books with
musical phrases in it. So far I get stuck with the 'cannot find
lilyponddefs' problem.
As far as I could look it up in the archive the problem is that there is
no lilypond-profile on the Suse 9.2 distribution. Does this mea
OK, I think we are getting closer to the problem.
What do the following commands return (note that the quotes

grep TEXPSHEADERS `kpsewhich texmf.cnf`

Nice comment! :-).
Transcription is the way of a musician to say, here what I think to be
the intent of the original composer. E

If you use the flag -E with dvips, it will produce an EPS file
(by default it will still be called .ps but will work as an .eps)
that's as small as possible, still including all the printed

Hi,
I will need to use Lilypond (2.0) in a text in OpenOffice.
To do that I am planning to use ps2eps and epstools to export the ps to

How can I tell LilyPond (2.0) to use a custom page size, so I get a

Yes. See http://tac.ki.iif.hu/lilypond.html, the
announcement hasn't yet arrived to info-lilypond. Caveat:
some characters in the PDF output look strange. The PS is
fine, however.

I essentially agree with you in the fact that a printed score is a more
synthetic representation of the musician's intention than a midifile or a
recording of an actual performance.
Nevertheless the process of converting a particular rendering to a printed score
