Please try this also outside of Frescobaldi. Then we can see if it is a

he goal for Frescobaldi: editing LilyPond source files,
but also via the Music View.
I am also thinking of dragging from one note to another and on release,
select the corresponding source and show a menu for adding slur,
articulations, or whatever.
Now I'd need time to implement these cool
gt;Tools->LilyPond Log.
By default the log hides the full path names but makes the filenames
clickable. But maybe this fails on your system.
Otherwise, LilyPond is probably sending the messages to a log file
instead of its standard output.

It is complicated just now to paste the code how we did it, because
everything is so intermingled, but I'll show it later on in a nice
writeup. We wrote many functions that read custom variables from the
paper or layout blocks (using ly:output-def-lookup), so we got a very
flexible layout.

To make MIDI differ from printed output the best solution might be to
create a separate \score { } for the midi output:
\score {
music
}
\score {
...music for the MIDI which will mainly use the same variables ...
\midi {
the tedious counting:
tune=\relative c' { c4\p d\< e f g\mf r2. }
words = \lyricmode { some sil -- ly words yah }
\score {
\new Staff { \tune } \addlyrics { \words }
}

rests and "melt" them together later:
music = \relative c' {
\times 2/3 {c8 d e } \times 4/5 {c16 a g f e }
}
slurs = {
\times 2/3 { s8 s( s } \times 4/5 { s16 s s s) s}
}
\new Staff {
\new Voice <<
\music
\slurs

It's a bug in Python 2.7.0. Upgrade to 2.7.1 (or 2.6.x :-)
Best!
