I have had little success with my two hummingbird feeders.
However, it has been a joy to have hummingbirds enjoying my several potted
Salvia! I had one large pot last year along with a few Salvia in my cut flower
bed.
This year, I planted a dozen Salvia in five pots placed on my deck.
We got a new red feeder from Audubon and humminhbirds love it. The 4
feeder tubes look like flowers. (They did not find the old one very
interesting) The feeder should be red, not the water. I have read red
food dye is not good for birds. Onward,

It is a time of year when blossoms may offer more than a feeder.
We have feeders at our CO mountain house- no fussing with cleaning, or store
bought stuff, no red dye- just sugar and water boiled and cooled. When they
are hungry, they will buzz bomb you and fight each other to get to that

IDK exactly why, but all airports will change the “pattern”, meaning which
runways are used for take offs and landings, from time to time. This can be due
to winds, although yesterday was quite still, or, as I have been told, Hanscom
rotates their landing patterns so as to “share the pain”
I have piles of cardboard that I was saving for sheet mulching. Most of it has
tape removed. Some doesn’t. Please come take all :) e mail me for address and

Hummingbirds are very territorial. I put up a feeder last spring and had a hummingbird show up constantly until another one came along about two weeks later. At that point they would show up dart around each other for a while then take off. I put up a 2nd feeder about 20 feet from the first one
I had something hanging in my window in front of the hummingbird feeder
that scared off the birds. It was an owl shaped thing made if shiny
matetial bc I had birds flying into my window. Anything like that?

So a week ago I hung up a hummingbird feeder. I’ve seen three of the little
guys come and check it out and then fly away without drinking. So I must be
doing something wrong. I did 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. I’ve also been
changing it out so I don’t think the nectar has gone bad.
